Pink moon

Here I share my recent painting inspired by the Pink Moon. Though the moon doesn’t really turn pink, there is a lot of meaning behind it.

This picture resembles the coming of Spring. Here you will see a pink phlox spread pasture nestled between two mighty cherry trees, and a beautiful Python bivittatus, relaxingly coiled around her recently laid eggs.

The meaning behind this painting brings Spring’s kiss of nature’s growth. The pink moon represents awakening of nature after the winters sleep. The pink resembles pink blossom, wild phlox which indicates that Spring is here. Abundance and renewal. The Python symbolizes regrowth, rebirth, protection and wisdom. She coils around her eggs to protect them, her ventral scales swirled, a figure of eight mimics the infinity symbol of unconditional love.

crow moon

Around mid-March 2025, there will be a full moon. In some parts of the world, it is known as the Crow Moon. Throughout February, I’ve painted this picture of the March full moon. It’s been a beautiful journey with this, the experience was magical.

This painting of the Crow Moon captures the quiet, mystical beauty of a late winter night, as the last remnants of snow still cling to the earth. A pale, luminous moon hangs in the sky, casting a soft, silvery glow over the barren landscape. The moon’s light shimmers on the frost-covered ground.

A group of crows is silhouetted against the moon. Their presence adds a sense of quiet movement and life to the stillness of the scene, echoing the symbolic connection of the Crow Moon to the time of transition before spring's arrival.

The cool, ethereal colours - soft lilacs, greys, and whites - bring a serene yet haunting atmosphere to the painting, evoking feelings of introspection and the passage of time. This painting represents clarity and transition.

snow moon

Around the 12th February 2025, the full moon is due to shine bright. I’ve spent some January nights painting this picture of the February full moon, which in some parts of the world is known as the Snow Moon. I feel very happy to share this wondrous piece which is the next part of my 2025’s Moon Collection.

I’ve used a mixture of gouache and watercolour to create the Snow Moon picture. It’s been an incredible and magical journey yet again with the natural beauty of the moon.

The Snow Moon found its name due to the heavy snowfall around the late January/February times of the year.

In this picture, I’ve painted a great snowy owl flying low in the reflection of the February full moon. The owl is preparing to land, wings spread, and talons are out ready to grip for stability. The landscape is laced with layers of fluffy snow. There is a hazy glow around distant stars, as snowflakes start to appear.

This painting resembles, inner awakening, spiritual enlightenment, wisdom and connecting with nature.

wolf moon

It feels very magical and special to be able to share this recent painting upon the night of the January full moon, which is known as, The wolf Moon.

I have always been fascinated with the moon; it has a unique and mystical vibe which has always captured my eye and thoughts. For centuries, people have made myth and folklore about this natural beauty.

The Wolf Moon found its name because its thought that wolves were heard howling more often at this time of the year. Wolves are pack animals, and they have strong family bonds, they often like to howl together and especially in the moonlight.

In this picture, I’ve painted two wolves howling toward the January full moon. The landscape is icy and cold, the trees are empty and bare, the twiggy foliage on the surface of the ground. The fur trees in the distance are laden with frosty mounds. There is a dewy mist to resemble the crisp air. Stars dance and twinkle in the sky as the Wolf Moon takes centre stage. This painting resembles, strength, connection and emotional well-being.

kin

Autumn is one of my favourite times of the year, it’s a sign to start winding down and heading to hibernating season. I love the colour transformations in nature, how they turn to golds, ambers and rubies. When I see a pumpkin, it signifies the start of it for me, there is just something magical about them.

Kin has been an absolute joy to paint; here we have two sibling dragons whose curiosity got the better of them during a tiring game of flying tag which led them over the harvest pasture. They had ventured further than they usually would, the dragons descended towards the ground preparing to land beside the glowing pumpkin to give their wings reprieve. The fiery hues reminded them of home and made them feel safe, which sent them into a restful snooze. They slept close by each other, one nestled on the floor beneath the pumpkin and the other lay curled up on the top. Here we see the early morning light coming through waking one of the Kin near the pumpkin.

lily and the forest orbs

Lily sees a golden haze winding through the woodland trees mid-summer.  In the shadow of the tall firs, glittering spheres of light dance. Catching Lily’s eye, she runs over to the trees with curiosity, she sees a path but no spheres of light dancing. Lily steps on to the path, she wanders into the woodland. Arching and bows of branches sway above her, the sound of birds singing and the gentle rustling of leaves in the trees as a subtle wind blow. The path continues into a deep forest, curiosity grows as does adrenaline, sparkling lights move around through the trees. Apprehensively moving closer, Lily slowly manoeuvres through and suddenly, with a blink of an eye, a warm shining sphere fades “there you are, I have found you, what are you” – Lily whispers in awe. Then, swirling around propelling trails of sparks of brilliance, the orb radiates, and more orbs appear.

In this moment, Lily is filled with a feeling of unconditional love, the feeling of a safe warm hug surrounds her. Lily’s energy is love of which she shares with the forest orbs.

Lily knew her question had been answered in a way of knowing and feeling, this was how the orbs communicated with her.

My story behind Lily and the Forest Orbs, resonates with me on a spiritual level. Nature, the universal force, the soul and the spirit.

FAE OF THE FOSS

Among the physical world of which we live in, dimensions of other worlds surround us, separated by veils of energy. Our mind’s eye will often catch glimpses through the veils, which lead to us sensing other beings from these other dimensions. Fairies or Fae shall we say have been part of folklore for centuries. Stories of the Fae have been shared in communities across the world.

Deep in the Yorkshire dales is a small and wonderful flowing waterfall, Janet’s Foss. Story has it that the Foss is the home to the Fairy Queen, Janet. Janet is the queen of the fairies, who lives within the cave which is behind the waterfall. Folk have said that the clearing of which the emerald pool is, fairies have gathered here to dance and merrymake.

Having discovered this tale, gave me a rush of inspiration. Within a few moments, I started sketching and painting. The colours started to flow, my heart went with different shades of greens, the moonlight meeting the flowing water created shimmering ripples down the rocks and into the pool. Moss gathers upon the tufa formed on the rocks. Then in the centre, upon the rock sits Fae of the Foss.

hIRA’S aSCENT

Sometimes my mind wonders to fantasy realms that my imagination conjures up. Then parts of them join together on to paper. A place among those realms is this. A land of elves, halflings, dragons and humans, though this may have become a thing having played Dungeons and Dragons with friends. I was caught up in this thought and had to share it in the way of a painting.

The scene is set after sunset, on a folly overlooking the seas and the landscape, the moon is full and glistens on the water while the stars dance around. To the right of the picture sits a joyous bard, playing a lute and to the left of the bard perches a youngling dragon upon the balcony of the folly. In the centre is a human-elf maiden. To the left, stands an halfling woman and to the left stands an elven archer.

In this moment a group of friends are brought together, to see Hira’s highest ascent yet. Their presence for the Hira brings support and encouragement, this is a very poignant time in this dragons life.

dESCENDANT OF SHADOWFAX

It all began with a glimpse of a magnificent white horse standing majestically in my minds eye. Its coat shimmered like freshly fallen snow, its deep soulful eyes looking back at me. I just had to draw it up on paper, then soon later I started to paint and bring the horse to life through this picture. Though this being a glimpse of such a beautiful horse, I named it ‘Descendant of Shadowfax’ after the mighty fast horse of Rohan, in JRR Tolkein’s Lord of the Rings:

“Run Shadowfax, show us the meaning of haste!”
- Gandalf

poppy

This was special moment for me, to have the honour of painting such a beloved pet cat for a loved one. Poppy was a beautiful calico, with a loving energy, she was affectionate and friendly.

I captured this image from an old photograph, sketched it up then started adding in the colours using gouache paint. Here we see Poppy calmly sat, hues of golds and yellows which bring joy around her, her collar bone coating pattern reminds me of a phoenix flying up.

Forever in our hearts, Poppy.
